Autism Support in Pune for Children

Aavishkaar is a structured, neurodiversity-affirming inclusion centre in Mundhwa, Pune. We help autistic children aged 3–8 build communication, regulation, independence, and school-readiness — so they can participate meaningfully in everyday life without masking who they are.

What we work on

The challenges autistic children face in everyday life.

Autism affects how a child communicates, processes sensory input, regulates emotions, and navigates social situations. These aren’t separate problems — they’re interconnected, and they show up everywhere: at school, at home, and in the community.

Communication

Many autistic children communicate differently — they may be non-speaking, minimally speaking, echolalic, or struggle with pragmatic language. We focus on functional communication: helping children express needs, respond, and engage in ways that work for them.

Sensory processing

Sensory differences are central to autism. Sounds, textures, lights, or crowds that other children tolerate may be overwhelming or under-stimulating. We help children develop coping strategies and build tolerance for everyday sensory environments.

Regulation & meltdowns

Meltdowns are not tantrums. They are the result of a system that’s overwhelmed. We help autistic children develop regulation strategies — recognising their own signals, using tools that work for them, and recovering from overload.

Social interaction

Autistic children may struggle with the unwritten rules of social interaction — turn-taking, reading body language, understanding sarcasm, joining group activities. We support social participation without forcing neurotypical social norms.

Transitions & routines

Unexpected changes, moving between activities, and navigating unstructured time can be deeply difficult. We help autistic children build flexibility and develop strategies for managing transitions.

School participation

Sitting in a classroom, following group instructions, managing lunch breaks, and coping with the sensory chaos of a school day. We focus on making school possible — not by changing the child, but by building the skills that make participation sustainable.

Sound familiar?

Concerns parents of autistic children bring to us.

  • My child was diagnosed with autism — what do I do now?

  • My autistic child can’t sit in class or follow instructions

  • Therapy is happening but my autistic child still can’t cope at school

  • I want support that understands autism, not just treats it

  • My child has ASD and is completely overwhelmed in group settings

  • Schools say my autistic child needs an aide but won’t explain what kind of support helps

Our approach

What neurodiversity-affirming autism support looks like.

We don’t suppress stimming

Stimming is a natural regulatory mechanism. We don’t stop it or redirect it unless it’s harmful. If a child needs to rock, flap, hum, or move to regulate, that’s respected.

We don’t force eye contact

Eye contact is not a measure of attention, respect, or engagement. Autistic children can listen and participate without looking at your face.

We don’t train compliance

We don’t want children who do what they’re told without understanding why. We want children who can participate meaningfully, communicate their needs, and navigate their world with agency.

We respect different communication

Not all communication is verbal. We support whatever mode of communication works for a child — speech, gestures, AAC, visual supports — and build from there.

We see strengths, not just deficits

Every autistic child brings strengths — pattern recognition, deep focus, honesty, creativity, systematic thinking. We build on what’s there, not just what’s missing.

We partner with parents

Parents of autistic children navigate a confusing landscape of advice, diagnoses, and interventions. We share what we observe clearly, build strategies together, and respect that parents know their child best.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

Is Aavishkaar an autism therapy centre?
No. We are a structured inclusion centre, not a therapy centre. We don’t provide ABA, speech therapy, or occupational therapy. We focus on the gap between therapy and real life — helping autistic children participate in school, home, and community.
Do you use ABA?
No. Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming. We do not use Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) or any compliance-based interventions. We focus on building genuine participation skills, not training behaviours.
What ages do you support?
Autistic children aged 3 to 8 years.
Does my child need a formal autism diagnosis?
No. Many parents come to us during the diagnostic process, or with a clinical impression rather than a formal diagnosis. We work with the child in front of us.
Can my autistic child attend Aavishkaar alongside school and therapy?
Yes. Most children who attend Aavishkaar continue with their regular school and any ongoing therapy. We supplement what’s already happening with structured inclusion support.
How is this different from autism therapy?
Therapy centres typically work on isolated skills in a controlled environment. We focus on whether those skills transfer to real life — school, home, playground, community. If therapy is happening but real life hasn’t changed, that’s the gap we address.
Where is Aavishkaar located?
Mundhwa, Pune. We serve families from Kharadi, Hadapsar, Viman Nagar, Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Wagholi, Magarpatta, Wanowrie, and across the city.
